Seville, Hispalis for the romans, owes its name to the plains in where is located (from the Phoenician Ispan = plain).
In whatever direction we move from Seville, we'll find wonders.
Morocco is 184 km to the south, crossing beautiful villages (Pueblos Blancos, Ronda, etc). The Strait of Gibraltar is 157 km away from Seville.
To the east there is Granada, at 250 km, surrounded by an important massif, the Sierra Nevada (almost 3,800 mt!).
To the north there is the Sierra, mountains not very high, but that protect it from the Africans winds, making the valley of the Lower Guadalquivir one of the hottest areas of Europe.
To the northwest is located Córdoba, a little wonder, 145 km away. Continuing in this direction we would arrive in Madrid (528 km), after crossing the famous "Mancha".
To the west there is Portugal, at about 140 km (the border), and Lisbon at 460 km.
Going to the south-west we would find Jerez, famous for the "Sherry" wines, andalusian horses and the Formula 1 circuit, and just ahead a real joy: Cadiz, the oldest city in Western Europe.
