City Malaga at night

Malaga in 400 words

More than 3,000 years of history contemplate the coastal city of Malaga, from its Phoenician origins to the beautiful and cosmopolitan city that attracts tourists from all over the world.

The imposing Roman Theatre is the oldest monument in Malaga, located in the historic centre of the city. It was built by the Roman Emperor Caesar Augustus in the first century BC at the foot of Mount Gibralfaro.

There is the Castle of Gibralfaro, named after a lighthouse on the top of Mount Gibralfaro ("Jabal-Faruk", lighthouse mountain). It is currently one of the most visited monuments in Malaga, from which you can enjoy splendid views and, on clear days, it is possible to see some of the mountains on the African Rif mountain range in addition to the Strait of Gibraltar.

Another historical monument often visited in Malaga is the Alcazaba, a palace building whose name in Arabic meant citadel and which combines history and beauty. Located next to the Roman Theatre and in front of the Customs building, it is an opportunity to see in just a few metres the union of Roman, Arab and Renaissance cultures.

In the centre of the city is one of the main squares: the Plaza de La Merced. Here is the obelisk in homage to General Torrijos and the birthplace of Picasso, the current headquarters of the Picasso Foundation. This square owes its name to the Church and Convent of Nuestra Señora de la Merced, built in the 16th century.

Other places of interest are the Plaza del Obispo, a baroque urban place of excellence in Malaga. Here are the Episcopal Palace (Bishop's Palace) and the main entrance to the Cathedral, with its impressive façade and marble staircases. It is the most significant monument of the city of Malaga and one of the most important Renaissance-Baroque cathedrals in Spain.

In short, its famous coastline, such as the Malagueta beach, its Holy Week, August Fair and its typical Andalusian gastronomy, make Malaga an unforgettable city and let yourself be carried away in this adventure by our specialized guides!
