Painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo Cathedral
Murillo and the Cathedral

Since 2017, it has been the fourth centenary of the birth of Bartolomé Esteban de Murillo, and what better way to get to know him than through one of his favourite places, the Cathedral of Seville.

During our visit to this great cathedral, we can enjoy some of his most important works. First we will explore the Baptistery of the Cathedral. There we will enjoy the magnificent pictorial altarpiece of the Vision of Saint Anthony of Padua or the Baptism of Christ.

We will also meet the Guardian Angel, in a small chapel that goes completely unnoticed, but which we cannot miss. In the main sacristy there are two important works, San Isidoro and San Leandro, both carried out in 1655, together with other works such as Santa Teresa de Zurbarán or El Descendimiento de Cristo de Pedro de Campaña.

After a short walk, we will go to the Chapter Hall, and we will be pleasantly surprised by the Immaculate Conception, represented by her white tunic and her blue mantle, typical of Murillo's painting. Although they may go unnoticed, there are also eight magnificent works by other saints related to the city of Seville, such as San Isidoro, San Leandro, San Pio, San Hermenegildo, Santa Justa, Santa Rufina, San Fernando and San Laureano

Finally, we will be able to visit the pictorial exhibition that the Cathedral maintains in its general entrance, there we will observe Fernando III in Santo, one of his most famous works. Thanks to this visit, Pancho Tours will immerse you in the best of Murillo and his work.
