What’s the April Fair?

The April Fair or Feria de Abril is an essential festivity that Sevillians celebrate every year in a large venue called the Real de la Feria.

In this place, dozens of booths (called casetas) are set up, and the Sevillians dress in their best clothes to meet to eat, drink, dance and enjoy the music and the atmosphere.

For this reason, its celebration usually falls in the second half of April, sometimes even entering the month of May, despite its name. This year 2022, the April Fair will be held from Sunday, May 1 to Saturday, May 7.

How to dress at the April Fair?

Traditional clothing is one of the most iconic images of this celebration.

Sevillian men dress formally, usually with shoes, a nice shirt, and an American jacket, although the tie is optional. But the most unique clothing is that of women: the flamenco dress or Sevillana dress.

With foreign visitors, it’s not so demanding with clothing: you can show up in a polo shirt, chinos, or even jeans, but especially the first night or if you are going to enter a caseta, it is recommended to dress up a little for the occasion.

Can I enter a caseta?

At the Fair, casetas are mainly divided into public and private.

The private casetas typically work by invitation: a member from the caseta can invite you. If you know a Sevillian by chance, either before or because you have met him at the Fair, he can invite you into their caseta.

The atmosphere in these casetas is somewhat more intimate; for many Sevillians it is a place to meet with friends and family to eat, sing and dance.

The public casetas, however, are open. Do not be mistaken to think that they are less enjoyable because of this; in them the Sevillians eat, drink, sing and dance as much as in any other. Fun is for everyone!

How to get to the April Fair?

The Real de la Feria is located opposite the historic center, on the other side of the Guadalquivir river. It is easy to get there from anywhere in Seville, and you can do it in several ways:

• By foot: It is the most straightforward option; if your accommodation is near the center, you can get there quickly by crossing the Los Remedios Bridge or the Las Delicias Bridge.
• By bus: Seville's urban bus network (TUSSAM) can take you there from practically anywhere in the city. They especially reinforce the service during the Fair to ensure that everyone can get there. They also establish a special line that connects the Prado de San Sebastián station with the fair.
• By subway: Seville also has a subway line that allows you to get to the Fair quickly; you can get off at the Plaza de Cuba or Parque de Los Príncipes stops and walk a short distance to get there.
